Change Oil Like a Pro: Winnebago Solis Maintenance Made Easy

In this post, we’ll walk through how to change the oil on a Winnebago Solis 59PX, which is built on a Ram ProMaster 3500 chassis.
It’s an easy DIY maintenance task that can save time, money, and extend the life of your camper van.

Why Regular Oil Changes Matter for Your RV

Motorized RVs endure rack up a lot of miles during the rental season—from long roadtrips to short weekend getaways.
That’s why keeping up with regular oil changes is critical. Dirty or old oil can reduce engine efficiency and cause costly damage over time.

If you rent your RV on platforms like RVshare or Outdoorsy, proper maintenance isn’t just about performance—it’s about protecting your investment and ensuring happy renters.

What You’ll Need

Before getting started, you’ll need to gather a few basic tools and supplies:

🔧 Pro Tip: You can find the Mopar or Fram filter at most auto parts stores or online. Always double-check your owner’s manual before purchasing replacements.

Step-by-Step: How to Change Oil on the Winnebago Solis 59PX

1️⃣ Prepare Your Workspace

Park on a level surface and let the engine cool slightly.
Use ramps to create enough space underneath for your drain pan and tools.

2️⃣ Drain the Old Oil

Locate the oil pan under the engine.
Use a 13 mm socket to loosen the drain bolt and let the oil flow into your drain pan.
Once it’s drained, reinstall and tighten the bolt securely.

3️⃣ Replace the Oil Filter

Loosen the oil filter with your wrench, then remove it by hand.
Pop off the old rubber seal, lubricate the new one with a bit of oil, and ensure it seats properly before reinstalling.
Tighten the new filter by hand, then give it a gentle snug with your wrench.

4️⃣ Add New Oil

Pour in 5.9 quarts of 0W-20 synthetic oil.
Check the dipstick to confirm the correct level—don’t overfill!

5️⃣ Reset the Oil Change Indicator

The Ram ProMaster 3500 makes this easy:

  1. Turn the ignition to the “ON” position (don’t start the engine).
  2. Press the gas pedal slowly three times.
  3. Turn the ignition off.
That’s it—the oil change light is now reset.

6️⃣ Dispose of Used Oil Responsibly

Fill your empty oil containers with the old oil and drop them off at AutoZone, or a local recycling center. To learn more you can click here.
